Let’s be clear

“Wait, what is this?”

The Curious Coder membership stems from my desire to help people who want to do more with Squarespace and get better at building websites. I got into this because I was curious about code, so it feels natural to call this the “Curious Coder” membership.

Code Catalogue

The Code Catalogue is the home base to get inspiration and search through all of the code snippets from this membership.

This is where I will be keeping and storing all of the free and premium code snippets that I’ve created over the years, and all the new ones to come.

Each Code Snippet comes with simple installation instructions and copy-and-paste code snippets to make using it on website a breeze.

Access 250+ CSS selectors to target the exact elements that you want to customize in Squarespace.

With additional CSS snippets for the most common customizations as well as links to other related customizations, this will become your go-to tool when customizing Squarespace websites.

As a bonus, there are HTML breakdowns of the most common Squarespace elements, like the page-section component, header component, and block-level components, for those of you who want to take your understanding to a deeper lever.

Learning Series include around 3-5 lessons (maybe more, maybe less). All lessons in the series will be immediately available to members on my website.

Each lesson will contain a teaching component with a video. The teaching component might be a code snippet, a CSS property, or a Squarespace tip or trick.

The lessons in each series are meant to build on one another but are also flexible enough for you to jump around. Each lesson is written with the understanding that you’re a busy person, so you should be able to go through it in 10 minutes or less.

You can view all of the released series’ on the Series page.

“Well, Why, Will?”

A lot of why I’m launching this membership is because I want to build the thing that I wish I’d had when I was first learning to code.

In 2016, I was trying to build a business and make it as a freelance website builder. I didn’t know how to code a thing; I barely even understood what code was.

What I did know, though, was the web designs that my client wanted couldn’t be built in Squarespace without code. But like a good little entrepreneur, I told them “No sweat, I can figure that out!” and proceeded to panic and spend hours searching for “how to make _____ happen on a Squarespace website”… sound familiar?

Using Google, YouTube and sheer force of Will (ha, get it!), I cobbled together some code and was able to get the designs built and mostly looking ok. After a few more projects like this, I learned the basics of CSS, and my confidence in my own ability to offer more unique designs in Squarespace grew. It felt amazing. I was getting paid to learn a new skill set, and the more I learned, the more I could charge for my work. I was hooked, and I wanted to know more. I was what you might call, Code Curious.

Coding can feel very random and frustrating when you’re getting started, especially if you try to jump in and learn everything at once (speaking from experience here). It’s a whole new language, after all. I’ve found that it’s best learned by being consistently curious and continuously trying new things to see what works.

When I was getting started, I felt incredibly overwhelmed, and the way I was best able to learn was by watching other people code and explain what they were doing, and then building on that knowledge slowly over time. With this membership, I’m trying to take all the best parts of how I learned to code, and add some consistency and convenience to make it even easier and more accessible for you, the Curious Coder, to grow your skillset and hopefully your business too.

FAQs

  • No, this does not include plugins, but it does include all the exclusive code in my Code Catalogue.

The goal here is learning though, not blindly copy-and-pasting.

  • This membership is more for people who are too busy to sit down and commit hours or days to a super-dense course but who like the idea of consistently learning a little bit every day. I like to think of it as a “continuous learning” program.

  • Not at all! Having a very basic understanding of CSS and HTML may be helpful, but you can jump in and learn as you go. But you do need to be curious about CSS and Javascript, and have a desire to learn it. If you want to just copy-and-paste code without learning anything about how it works, this probably isn’t for you.
